❃ The Anomalocaris swam the oceans 530 million years ago and is part of the many alien creatures showcased nowadays. Its name means “unusual shrimp” in Greek.
❃ Despite being called a shrimp, the Anomalocaris was actually a major predator of the seas before. It grew up to 6-feet long and proved to be the largest of all the Burgess Shale fossils. Its eyes aided in its predatory life—giving it extreme vision underwater. Not to mention it was a fast swimmer, too.
❃ Helping its predator life is the Anomalocaris’s mouth which is believed to be composed of 32 overlapping plates. Basically speaking, it easily crushed its prey. However, it was also argued that its teeth were too soft—dumbfounding researchers on what these animals were doing millions of years ago.
